{"id":1294,"date":"2020-03-26T10:47:05","date_gmt":"2020-03-26T14:47:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rutherfordschools.org\/kcenter\/?p=1294"},"modified":"2020-03-27T10:10:00","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T14:10:00","slug":"practicing-red-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rutherfordschools.org\/kcenter\/practicing-red-words\/","title":{"rendered":"Practicing &#8220;Red&#8221; Words"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>We understand that this is a challenging time for many at home and we are working to provide you with a variety of ideas and activities to keep learning fun.\u00a0 We thank you for your patience.\u00a0 \u00a0Practicing high frequency words is a practical way to help your child with reading and writing.\u00a0 The <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">red<\/span> words are words that your child should be able to read immediately and have transitioned to reading them in text and applying them to writing.\u00a0 Check out this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rutherfordschools.org\/kcenter\/k-center-parent-training-videos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">video<\/a> to help introduce new words and practice previously taught word!\u00a0 Ms. Knapp has created some tutorial <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/398831755\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">videos<\/a> to help students.\u00a0 Additional resources are also available on her <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/rutherfordschools.org\/christinaknapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> to supplement those posted on your child&#8217;s teacher&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rutherfordschools.org\/kcenter\/about-kcenter\/staff-directory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Some other ideas to practice <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">red<\/span> words include:<\/b><\/div>\n<div>-Making the letters out of playdough. Have children spell and say it 3 times touching each letter and sweeping their finger to underline the word when they say the word.<\/div>\n<div>-Flour\/Sugar\/Pudding\/Jello on a baking sheet. Write the letters of the word using their dominant hand pointer finger to make the word, saying each letter as they go and saying the word as they underline it. Do this 3x for each word.<\/div>\n<div>-Rainbow trace the word. Write a word and trace in 3 different colors.<\/div>\n<div>-Sky Write the words.
