K Parents

Dear K Parents,

Beginning January 19th, students in the morning Kindergarten class should arrive via the Pierrepont or Vreeland Avenue doors. Students will wait for their teachers in the gymnasium with the other members of the Lincoln family. The students are very familiar with the gymnasium and Mr. Potor will be there to greet them.

In order to have an orderly and safe drop off, please follow the established morning procedures outlined in the Student Handbook. The handbook states:

Crossing guards are on duty from 7:45 am until 8:45 am, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm each school day. All students shall enter school through the doors on Vreeland or Pierrepont. All late arrivals after 8:35 shall enter school through the main door and should report to the main office.
Students should not arrive to school before 8:10 since there is no supervision for the children before this time. If you are unable to watch your child until 8:10, you should enroll your child in the before school care program – Meadowlands YMCA.
The safety and well being of the children is our prime concern; obeying the law is also a must. For these reasons we do not condone double-parking around our buildings. There is a drop off lane on Vreeland Ave. Parents must pull up to the cones and have student exit. This lane should not be used by families that need extra time or need to watch students walk to the door. Parents must stay in the car.
Parents that wish to park and walk to school may walk their children to the school doors. Parents may not enter the school.

Please note that the Pierrepont Ave entrance closes at 8:30 a.m., but Vreeland Ave doors stay open until 8:35 a.m. If your child needs extra time or if you would like to view your child enter the doors, please do not use the drop off lane. Students exit quickly and parents leave immediately.

I am sure your child will be excited to wait with the ‘big kids.’ Any questions or concerns, please call me. I look forward to greeting your child in the morning on January 19th!

Sincerely,

Jeanna Velechko

Love for Little Ones

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Lincoln School staff feels it is important to educate the whole child. Not only do we want our students to be well educated, but kind citizens in their communities as well. It is with this goal in mind that the Lincoln teachers select one charity to educate students about the needs of others and to model how helping others can be empowering.

St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, New Jersey has established the William Carlos Williams Fund to create a Level 2 nursery. Dr. Williams, a prominent Rutherford resident, worked as a physician at St. Mary’s where he made lasting contributions to the hospital. It is in Dr. Williams’ honor that we participate in St. Mary’s fund raising campaign. A spokesperson for the hospital shared that they are in need of basic supplies to begin this Level 2 Nursery.

Love for Little Ones, the name of this initiative, will encompass three ways children can reach out. First, students will be creating Valentine’s Day cards and decorations for the nursery. The babies will have some stimuli and parents will feel welcome. Second, we will accept any monetary donations for the William Carlos Williams Fund. We will accept cash or checks made out to SMH Foundation- WCW Fund. Third, we will be collecting board books for the babies. At Lincoln School we stress a love of reading and want to pass this love along to the youngest ‘readers.’ Students can send in a board book with a small note inside sharing why this is a special book or what is special about reading. Students can sign the note with their first name only. We plan on sending each baby home with a board book that can be read by a loving adult. One student from each class will be randomly selected to help present the books/ monetary donation to a representative from St. Mary’s Hospital.

We thank you in advance for complementing our efforts to educate your children on the importance of understanding others may be less fortunate and spreading our love of reading to ‘Little Ones.’

With Thanks,

Jeanna Velechko and Lorraine DeCaprio
