IMPLEMENTATION OF SCHOOL LEVEL PLANS [N.J.A.C. 6:8-2.2(a)3]
These school objectives were approved by the Rutherford Board of Education at its regular meeting of November 11, 2002.
PIERREPONT SCHOOL: Margaret Vaccarino, principal
During the 2002-2003 school year, students in grades K-8 will increase their awareness of pro-social behaviors and positive values through participation in formal and informal character education activities that are integrated into the curriculum.
To achieve this objective:
*Teachers will develop at least two lessons each month that promote positive values and pro-social student behaviors.
*At least one bulletin board will be maintained in each classroom that addresses character education.
*Teachers will implement conflict resolution procedures with students as the need arises. New faculty/staff will be trained in VPCR.
Evaluation:
*Teachers will record and highlight objectives/lessons that pertain to character education (two each month) in their planbooks.
*A log of topics/activities addressed each marking period will be submitted in January and June.
*Administrative monitoring will be conducted through classroom observation, review of planbooks and logs, and evidence of studentsÕ pro-social behaviors in the educational environment.
By July 2003 75% of students in grades 3-8 will demonstrate proficiency in mathematics by achieving a level of proficient or advanced proficient on the Grade Eight Proficiency Assessment or the ESPA or by achieving a score at or above the national average on the Terra Nova test.
To achieve this objective:
*Math teachers in grades 3-8 will analyze standardized test results and adjust delivery of instruction to address areas in need of improvement.
*Classroom teachers will collaborate with BSI teachers to differentiate instruction to lower achieving students.
Evaluation:
*Teachers will meet to collaborate at grade levels and across the grade levels to analyze test data and articulate curriculum
*A list of target areas will be developed for each grade level.
*Administration will monitor through classroom observation, review of planbooks, and records of student performance.
*Results of 2003 GEPA, ESPA, and Terra Nova in mathematics will be used to evaluate achievement of objective.
UNION SCHOOL Roy Corso, Interim Principal
By June 2003 75% of students in grades 5-8 will demonstrate the ability to write in clear, concise, organized language that varies in form and content for various subjects across the curriculum by achieving a .5 growth from first semester assessments and an additional .5 growth for second semester or final average of 3.0 on the 0-4 New Jersey Rubric for open-ended items.
To achieve this objective:
*Teachers of social studies, science, mathematics, and language arts will develop weekly lessons to provide students with skills needed to generate clear, concise, organized written responses in each subject area.
*Teachers will develop assignments/assessments that provide students with the opportunity to write in clear, concise, organized paragraphs in each content area.
*Open- ended responses will be assessed and recorded at least twice monthly.
*Support will be provided as needed by in-service training, collegial interaction, and outside resources.
Evaluation:
*Teachers will record lessons pertaining to this objective in planbooks.
*Monthly assessment scores will be recorded, averaged, and submitted to the administration in February or June.
In the spring testing 2003, students in grade 3 will show a growth of 5% in the language arts/literacy portion of the Terra Nova assessment.
To achieve this objective:
*Teachers in grade 3 will develop comprehensive plans in which students will engage in activities that require a strong reading/writing connection.
*Teachers will emphasize activities that focus on vocabulary development and the understanding of interence and context clues.
*Supplemental materials will be used to reinforce growth in skills.
Evaluation:
*Teachers will include relevant lessons in their planbooks for administrative review.
*Teachers will conduct monthly assessments to ascertain progress.
*Results of spring 2003 Terra Nova will be analyzed.
WASHINGTON, SYLVAN, AND LINCOLN SCHOOLS

By June 2003 75% of students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will demonstrate the ability to write in clear, concise, organized languages that varies in content and form for various subjects across the curriculum by achieving a .5 growth from first semester assignments and an additional .5 growth for second semester or a final average of 3.0 on a 0-4 rubric using the appropriate New Jersey Rubric for open-ended items.
To achieve this objective:

LINCOLN SCHOOL
Students in grade 3 will show an increase of 5% in the total math score on the spring 2003 Terra Nova test.
To achieve this objective:
*Teachers will develop a comprehensive plan in which students will be engaged in activities that require both computation skills and problem-solving skills.
*Assessment will be varied to include open-ended questions, computation, and problem-solving.
Evaluation:
*Teachers will record lessons pertaining to this objective in planbooks.
*Administration will monitor through classroom observations and review of planbooks, math activities, and student performance on assessments
*Terra Nova results will be analyzed for growth.
WASHINGTON SCHOOL AND SYLVAN SCHOOL
Students in grade 2 will show an increase of 5% in the total language arts/literacy portion of the Terra Nova test.
To achieve this objective:
*Teaches will develop a comprehensive plan in which students will be engaged in activities that require strong reading/writing connections.
*Teachers will emphasize activities that focus on vocabulary development and the understanding of inference and context clues.
*Supplemental materials will be used to reinforce skills in this area.
Evaluation:
*Teachers will record lessons pertaining to this objective in planbooks.
*Administration will monitor through classroom observations and review of planbooks, writing activities, and student performance on assessments.
*Teachers will conduct monthly assessments to ascertain progress.
*Staff will analyze Terra Nova results.
RUTHERFORD HIGH SCHOOL John Hurley, principal
By June 2003 there will be an increase of 10% in the number of graduating seniors considered to be a ÒgoodÓ or ÒoutstandingÓ leader based on the previous yearÕs data and a 3% increase in the percentage of students who perform community service.
To achieve this objective:
*The refined Leadership Matrix will be used to determine level of student leadership as measured by the specific criteria established by the committee. The Camp Mason and other leadership development activities will continue.
*Community service can be performed through school service clubs, community groups, and organized tutoring programs.
*This school objective is part of the schoolÕs approved Accreditation for Growth process and has been approved as a long-term school objective.
Evaluation:
*The Leadership Matrix will be used in June 2003 for assessment of growth.
By June 2003 60% of the graduating seniors will display competency in technology as evidenced by a passing score on the National Occupational Competency Test in Business and Information Processing (a score at or above the state mean) and by the successful completion of a technology-based project.
To achieve this objective:
*Students will continue their training in electronic research methods and multi-media presentation strategies in their social studies classes and other classes, as appropriate.
*Teachers will continue their training in the same areas as part of the district professional development process.
*Students will make multi-media presentations on topics related to core curriculum areas.
*Students will participate in spring assessment in 2003.
Evaluation:
*Teachers will use rubric to assess student projects as they are completed. Scores on spring testing will be analyzed.
