MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE
RUTHERFORD BOARD OF EDUCATION
MARCH 1, 2000
A special meeting of the Board of Education was held on Wednesday evening, March 1, 2000 at the High School Cafeteria. Meeting was called to order by President Willis at 7:37 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
On roll call the following members were present: Mr. Derner, Mr. Ferguson, Mr. Ferrara, Mr. Galloway, Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Novosielski, and Mrs. Willis. Mrs. Miceli arrived at 7:36 P.M. Mr. McGehrin arrived at 7:43 P.M. Also present were Dr. Sarsfield and Dr. Verbist.
N.J. OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS LAW
The New Jersey Open Public Meetings Law was enacted to insure the right of the public to have advance notice of and to attend the meeting of public bodies at which any business affecting their interests is discussed or acted upon. In accordance with the provisions of this Act, the Rutherford Board of Education has caused notice of this meeting to be published by having the date, time and place thereof posted on the bulletin board outside the Borough Clerks Office, mailed to the News Leader, Herald, South Bergenite, and the Record newspapers, and filed with the Borough Clerk.

Mrs. Miceli arrived at this time (7:36 P.M.).
DISCUSSION OF 2000-01 SCHOOL YEAR BUDGET
Mr. McGehrin arrived at this time (7:43 P.M.).
Discussion took place regarding the children left homeless due to the fire.
Discussion took place on job responsibilities of the new computer teacher.
TENTATIVE BUDGET Resolution by Mr. Derner, seconded by Mrs. Miceli.
2000-01 SCHOOL YEAR BE IT RESOLVED BY THE RUTHERFORD BOARD OF EDUCATION to approve the tentative 2000-01 school year budget in the amount of $24,653,540.
FURTHER, the Rutherford Board of Education requests Spending Growth Limitation adjustment for changes in Enrollment - $346,415.
On roll call all members present voted "aye".
SECOND PROPOSAL Resolution by Mr. Derner, seconded by Mrs. Johnson.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE RUTHERFORD BOARD OF EDUCATION to approve a second proposal on the ballot in the amount of $170,000,
FURTHER, the Rutherford Board of Education has determined that the second proposal is made up of $114,000 for two WASAL Computer Labs; $16,000 for High School Auditorium Lighting; $40,000 for a Pilot Lunch Program at the High School.
On roll call all members present voted "aye", with the exception of Mr. Ferrara, Mr. McGehrin, and Mrs. Miceli who abstained.
Discussion ensued regarding items and merits of a second proposal.
ADJOURNMENT: Motion by Mrs. Johnson, seconded by Mrs. Miceli that the meeting be adjourned at 11:42 P.M.
