There is no question that technology has had a huge impact on our global society. At Rutherford High School we have challenged ourselves to keep abreast of this powerful explosion of high-tech knowledge. Our changeover to Technology Education from Industrial Arts has been an ongoing process. We have converted our Mechanical Drawing classes to CAD (Computer Aided Design) using the software package MicroStation, ProDesktop, and VectorWorks, all industry standards. Our Shop classes have been upgraded to Woodworking Technology emphasizing decision-making and problem-solving techniques to arrive at an end product. The courses Introduction to Technology and Control Technology and Invention include the study of robotics, electronics, bridge building and design and development of several hands-on modules. Our newest and most ambitious offering to date is TV Production, and TV Studio Workshop.
TV Production & TV Studio Workshop are project-oriented courses which enable students to learn about and use the most up-to-date equipment in the field of video production. They work cooperatively in a TV studio setting to produce shows that are edited by the students, resulting in a finished tape of professional quality. Some other projects planned are a news program, an interview show, live programming and taping and editing of school plays and sporting events. In addition, Board of Education meetings are taped and readied for broadcast by our TV Production and TV Studio Workshop classes.
