English Department Supervisor

A member of the faculty at Rutherford High School since 1983, Mrs. Lori Dernelle has been the district supervisor for Language Arts Literacy for the past 8 years. She received her undergraduate degree in English Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University, her masters in Administration, Supervision and Curriculum from New Jersey City University and her plus 30 credits in educational technology, leadership and curriculum from New Jersey City University. Mrs. Dernelle is also the supervisor for the library media centers and was instrumental in acquiring the new Follett Destiny library catalog and circulation system for the district last year. Currently, Mrs. Dernelle teaches one senior English class at the high school and has previously taught every grade level, 9th, 10th and 11th honors, Advanced Placement, Honors Great Books and remedial English. English Classes

All students are required to take one year of English for each year of enrollment up to four credit years. By recommendation, students can take up to four years of Honors English or Advanced Placement English as a senior. In addition students may choose from the following electives:

  • College Writing
  • Journalism
  • Writing the College Essay
  • Public Speaking
  • Honors Humanities
